CIVL 3020 - Internship Training

Internship training provides students the opportunity to gain professional experience and to apply theories to real-life situations. Students are required to complete a minimum of six weeks on-the-job training in civil engineering consulting firms, contractors, developers or relevant government departments, or an equivalent of 5-week mock construction training under the supervision of professional practitioners. Graded P or F.

Students could seek departmental nominations. In general, the Department shortlists students based on CGA of the most recent semester. However, the Department shall follow specific criteria set by employers, if any. Nomination does not guarantee a job but the final decision rests with the company. Normally, job opening will be sent to all Year 3 students in around March.

Students could also find their own summer internship. For self-sourced internship, students may send their Training Report to the Department to apply for fulfilling the requirements of CIVL3020. Course approval will be granted only if the student can provide sufficient evidence that relevant civil and environmental engineering experience has been gained, the student has performed well under proper supervision by a qualified professional engineer in the summer placement and the summer placement has not been shorter than six weeks.

Beijing Internship

A two-month summer training in Beijing Mainland China organized by the Children & Youth Science Center of the China Association for Science and Technology is held in mid of June to August every summer.
